Item: 57 Description: Confederate Porcelain Block. The Southern Porcelain Company of Kaolin, South Carolina made insulators for the Confederate Army until the factor burned down in 1864. This unglazed insulator was dug at the factory and is offered un-restored and "as dug". No repairs have been made. Most of the damage to the item is on the back side and can be seen in View 4. The vertical line scratched in the bottom half of the block in View 1 is likely a mark put there by the employee, possibly a slave, to indicate who made this insulator.
