Item: 42  Description: CD 120 C.E.W. (010) Light Blue with Light Amber / Milky Swirls. The swirls enhance the desirability of this insulator, as these most often come in aqua & blue colors with no additional character. This one has a number of shallow, natural, annealing lines. Those around the wire groove were subject to wear. As a result, they show as dark lines in the photos. In person, the annealing lines don’t stand out like that.  Grade B for two small upper wire ridge flakes; and nibbles and light wear on the lower wire ridge. C.E.W. ponies were often used on early telephone lines built along canals in the 1880’s. In the American West, those were canals that supplied water to gold mines. In Hawaii, the canals supplied water to sugar plantations. Communication was needed along the canals to regulate water flow to the various users.
