Item: 41  Description: CD 152 McLaughlin (010) Aqua. This rather plain looking insulator has a secret that surprises many collectors: Not very many of them are known. In 1970, I and a friend heard some had been found at Williams, Arizona. So we went there specifically to hunt for McLaughlin 40's. We found stacks of crossarms loaded with hundreds of Hemingray 40's. And we came away with a total of just three (3) McLaughlin 40's. This particular example has a couple of surprises of its own. View 2 shows an array of bubbles: skirt, lower wire ridge and upper wire ridge. And View 3 shows something that's a bit unusual for McLaughlin's… a curtain of graphite in the center of the skirt.  Grade B: View 3 reveals a thin, inside-the-skirt, flake under the letters "cL". It also has a small flake and some wire wear on the dome; and a partially open bubble on the upper wire ridge. About eight of the sharp drip points are flaked or blunted. This insulator has not been cleaned thoroughly, and will look much nicer when it receives some TLC.
