Item: 56 Description: U-989 Confederate "Milk Bottle" Insulator. The Southern Porcelain Company of Kaolin, South Carolina made insulators for the Confederate Army until the factor burned down in 1864. This insulator was dug at the factory and is offered un-restored and "as dug". No repairs have been made. Please check out all four sides to see various fractures and chips. The piece is solid and not subject to coming apart. View 5 shows inside the base. Note the threadless pin hole with a slot on one side for a special pin. View 6 looks down at the dome. Note the punctate circle caused by one end of a skeleton key being pressed into the porcelain before firing. That mark likely denoted which factory employee, possibly a slave, made this specific insulator. Grade C: As dug & un-restored. Estimate: $400 - $500 Open: $200 Price realized: $310 |
