Item: 48  Description: U-2294A Berghaus (Germany). The mounting bracket and insulator are a single unit in this design, which was patented on April 17, 1940 according to the NIA website. It was made in Berghaus, Germany and has the logo (BA) on crown of the insulator as shown in View 5. View 4 shows the base and rounded back of the insulator. The style was written up in the December 1994 issue of Crown Jewels magazine. Our consignor notes that this was a find of unused old stock that had been stored away in a barn in the state of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern in Northeastern Germany. With the rounded back, the insulator was intended to be mounted on poles. He says the single unit style was designed to preserve iron that would have been used in brackets for war-time purposes. Most of the very few used examples known have various degrees of damage. This one is in excellent condition with only a small flake on the back as shown at the far right in View 2Grade A-Minus .
