Item: 393 Description: CD 160 Brookfield (012) Mold Paste Reference Examples. Mold paste is a lubricant of various types and usages in glass making. With insulators, it made it easier to remove the insulator from the mold. But the paste could build up in the engraving; and if not brushed out frequently, it could prevent portions of the engraved letters from being formed. This could result in what appears to be engraving (spelling) errors. Here are a smooth base (012) and a sharp drip point (unlisted) example of the middle bar of the letter “F” and “E” being missing. The “F” looks like an upside down “L” in both View 2 and View 3, although close examination shows a hint of the middle bar on each. In View 2, there’s a hint of the middle bar of the “E”; but that’s not present at all on the Drip Point version shown in View 3. The “R” is also malformed on the drip point piece. The smooth base is Grade B-Minus for a small wire ridge chip and a base slice. The drip point example is Grade B for a couple small inside-the skirt slices, a half dozen flaked drip points and nibbles on the inner skirt. These aren’t worth much as insulators, but make nice examples of the so-called engraving errors that were the result of mold paste build up. Your one bid is for both insulators.
