Item: 39  Description: Wood Block Rams Horn – Circa 1860. Classic & historic early-day insulator. The iron hook (rams horn) held the wire; the wood was nailed to a pole or tree. The only insulating factor was the hard rubberized material into which the iron hook was affixed. With a dryer climate in the American West, these were used in California, Nevada, Utah & Wyoming…. including on the Transcontinental Telegraph Line. Average condition with a part of the wood missing as shown in View 2 and View 4. Someone re-enforced the wood with some glue or epoxy as can be seen in View 2 & View 3.
