Item: 379 Description: Radio Strain: Lead-In Insulator. Larger examples were called “Entering Insulators”. This is the smallest one I’ve ever seen and the Navy called it a “Lead-In Insulator”. See View 2. These were used to insulate radio antenna wires when they passed through walls (or ceilings) to enter into a radio room. This glass portion of this example measures just 1 and 7/8ths inches long. The glass is unembossed, but has a parts number painted on each half. The color is clear. The glass appears straw colored due to the cardboard gasket between the two halves. Grade M = Mint: New in box, never used. The one apparently found its way to a military surplus store where it was priced at 30-cents. Estimate: $50 - $75 Open: $30 |
