Item: 313 Description: U-1940 Buller’s Dry Spot Insulator. These are often called “Potheads”. The top unscrewed to allow wires to connect in the dry area inside the insulator. The top on this one unscrews easily, but the interior is with filled with a hard, black, substance which was probably used to ensure no moisture would contact the wires. The insulator was white but has decades of British patina decorating it. Someone removed enough of the grime to show the Buller’s logo (View 2) and the initials LNER (View 1). Those initials stand for London North Eastern Railway (1923 – 1948). The insulator’s appeal is enhanced by having the original wire attached. Grade B-Plus: Small flake on the threads for the cap.
