Item: 282 Description: CD 145 B (070) “Blue Twister”. Someone turned a tornado loose inside the mold for this one. This is one of the crudest glass insulators I’ve ever seen. Study the threads in all three pictures. They twist in every-which direction. Not surprisingly, the insulator doesn’t fully screw onto a pin. The exterior of the glass is heavily folded with straw marks, so much so that the “No. 44” only partially shows on the reverse skirt, with the number “6” below where the embossing should be. Inside the pin hole, a large bubble is open to the threads. And if the insulator wasn’t messed up enough, it was also the victim of a lehr kiss or kisses. There are three kiss marks where this insulator contacted another in the cooling lehr. Notice in View 2 and View 3 how misshapen the dome is. There’s an open bubble on the base and an annealing separation on the inner skirt. There are a couple nibbles around the base, I think from tiny open bubbles. There’s also nibbles on the sharp inside edge of the base as is typical for MLOB’s. The issues I have described are related to the manufacture of the piece, and not damage from usage. While I call the condition Grade B-Plus ; it is an A-Plus when it comes to character. Estimate: $150 - $200 Open: $85 Closing price: $270 |
