Item: 269 Description: Confederate Lot 4: From excavations at the Southern Porcelain factory site in Koalin, South Carolina we offer the following lot: Kiln furniture used in firing porcelain objects, as well as part of a plate. The “Y” shaped pieces were used between porcelain plates to keep them separated and prevent them for fusing during firing. The broken portion of a plate is marked “S 2 / COMPANY / KAOLIN / S. C.” Among the items made at the factory were cups, plates, saucers, pitchers and other household items. The round object is a glaze test piece.
