Item: 216 Description: CD 106 Lynchburg (170) “Tonged, Shouda’ Been Gonged”. This yellow green pony was grabbed with a pair of tongs while the glass was still soft. In View 2, the dark horizontal shadow is NOT a fracture. It IS an indention in the glass. The skirt is concave at the letters “DE IN” where the tong grabbed the insulator. There’s a vertical annealing line in the center of View 2 and a piece of glass is missing at the right side of the letter “A”. I think the glass had nearly cooled, but not quite, when the insulator was grabbed. That action stressed the glass and caused the defects. Still, the insulator was sold and put in service. It has wire wear on the lower wire ridge and in the wire groove. Grade B . Estimate: $30 - $40 Open: $15 Closing price: $30 |
