Item: 21 Description: U-966 No Name Thomas. Dark Reddish Brown Glaze. The U-966 was designed by Lewis Stillwell in 1901 to create a stronger insulator by using a one-and-5/8ths inch wooden pin, the only insulator designed for a pin this large according to Elton Gish. The original usage was on a line from Niagara Falls to Buffalo. It’s a Unipart as the two sections are glaze-welded together. See View 3. This insulator was found in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan on a line leading to a copper mine. It is a large insulator measuring 6 and 3/8ths inches across at the base and 7.75 inches tall. It weighs over 9 pounds. And it is an amazing GRADE A condition . There is a tiny glaze blister inside the skirt and several small glaze skips (unglazed areas), but I don’t see any damage from usage.
