Item: 127 Description: CD 105 AM INS CO (030 – Lines & Dots over Dome) Aqua. Check out the dome in View 2. That worn spot shows that this is a “Chair Leg” insulator. That is, it was used (with three more) to either insulate a chair from possible lightning strikes at a lookout tower; or used as a coaster to protect a floor from wear. As an aside, just a couple years ago I held a yard sale where I mentioned insulators. A US Forest Service rig pulled up and the employee bought an insulator for a chair leg at a local lookout tower. He said one of them on the chair had gotten broken and he needed to replace it. So insulators are still being used for that purpose. View 3 shows that a base chip at the 3:00 o’clock position removes the numbers “81” from the patent date. There’s also a shallow bruise at about the 2:00 o’clock position. Grade C . This is a pretty scarce insulator for “chair leg” usage. Estimate: $120 - $140 Open: $80 Price realized: $100 |
